The bait

Rigging rule: the hook needs to be larger/wider than the central ball of that kind of bait; if the hook doesn't extend beyond that central ball, you will lose fish or miss your hookset

• owner: medium-heavy rod required — lighter rods feel loaded like weeds; casting is challenging (poor aerodynamics)

• owner buoyancy: neutral — TPE urchin baits weigh a bit but won't sink unless weighted (maker copy says 'floating')
• Jack's setup (2026-09-13): 24mm green pumpkin blue Abstract, 1/0 treble, 3/16 oz VMC nail weight — 12 lb (lake-record class) plus 7/6/5/3/3 in one Sunday session
• Jack's line (2026-09-13): braid tied directly to the hook with no leader — against the finesse-leader convention, and it still produced the 12 lb
