When should I use a Texas rig vs a Carolina rig?
Texas rig for shallow cover and vegetation; Carolina rig as a deep-water search lure.
Both are soft-plastic worm rigs built to work through cover. The Texas rig is generally the better choice in shallow spots with heavy cover or vegetation, where it stays weedless; the Carolina rig excels in deep water as a search lure, with the leader keeping the bait off the bottom. Lighter sinkers help either rig pass through weeds and grass.
Both are warm-weather winners; in fall, slow bottom-crawling soft plastics lose some attention.
